Private beta · 500 spots

Stop hunting for what you already saw.

Pixel Dust records your screen, reads every pixel, and makes your whole day searchable. Find it in three seconds instead of three tabs — without your work ever leaving your Mac.

100% local
Capture, OCR, and search never leave your Mac

No tagging, no folders, no naming discipline

How it works

Four steps. None of them are yours.

You never tag a file or name a screenshot. Pixel Dust watches, reads, and indexes in the background — so recall is just typing.

1

Capture

Runs quietly in the background at your chosen cadence. Pause from the menu bar whenever you want.

2

Index

Every frame is read on-device. Text from docs, code, Figma, and Slack becomes searchable.

3

Search

Type what you half-remember. Exact, fuzzy, and meaning-based matches come back at once.

4

Ask

Ask in plain English. Answers cite the exact moment on your screen, not a model’s guess.

Features

Everything recall needs. Nothing you have to manage.

Built for people who live in twenty tabs, not people with immaculate folder structures.

Timeline search

Scrub back through your day, or jump straight to a moment by typing a few words you remember.

Ask mode

“What did I commit to on Friday?” Answers come back grounded in your own screen history.

Bring your own key

Claude, GPT, or your own endpoint. Your provider account, your costs, your data.

Retention you control

Keep thirty days, ninety, or forever. Anything past your window deletes itself.

Instant pause

One click in the menu bar. Nothing is captured while you’re paused — no dialogs, no delay.

Light on disk

Thumbnail-first storage keeps your timeline in gigabytes. Full resolution only when you ask for it.

Privacy

A recorder you can actually trust.

Your screen is the most sensitive data you own. Pixel Dust is built so that trusting it doesn’t require trusting us.

  • Stays on your Mac

Frames, extracted text, and search indexes are stored locally and encrypted at rest. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.

  • Private windows skipped

Incognito and private browsing windows are detected and excluded from capture by default.

  • Pauses for passwords

Capture stops itself the moment a password field takes focus, in any app — nothing is stored while you type credentials.

  • Redact what you choose

Block whole apps, hide windows by title, and scramble keywords before they ever reach the index.

  • Cloud is opt-in, always

Search and capture work fully offline. A remote model is used only if you connect one yourself.

Pricing

Free while you’re in the beta.

Capture and search are free for every beta user, with your full history kept — no seven-day cap while the beta runs. Ask is the paid part, because answering questions costs real money. Or buy it once and be done.

FAQ

Questions worth asking first.

What exactly does Pixel Dust store?

Timeline thumbnails, the text extracted from them, and the search index — all on your Mac, encrypted at rest. Full-resolution video is a separate mode that stays off until you turn it on.

Can I stop it from recording something?

Yes, several ways. Pause instantly from the menu bar, exclude specific apps entirely, hide windows by title, or delete any range of history after the fact. Private and incognito browser windows are skipped automatically.

Does it work offline?

Capture, text extraction, and search are fully local and work with no connection at all. Only Ask mode reaches out, and only to the AI provider you connect yourself.

How much disk space does it use?

Pixel Dust stores compressed thumbnails first, so a typical timeline stays in the gigabytes rather than the terabytes. You set a storage ceiling and a retention window, and old captures are removed automatically.

Will it slow my Mac down?

Capture is lightweight and text extraction runs on idle cycles, with options to pause it on battery or in Low Power Mode. You control the capture interval and the processing level.

When does the beta open up?

Access is going out in waves to keep support quality high. Request a spot and we’ll email you as soon as your wave opens — no other mail in between.

What happens when the beta ends?

Nothing abrupt, and no card on file. Capture and search stay free, and while the beta runs your full history is kept. Once it ends, free accounts keep the most recent seven days — so if you want your whole timeline permanently, that’s what a Pro plan or the one-time Lifetime licence buys. You’ll get plenty of warning either way, and your timeline lives on your own Mac regardless of what you decide.
